We believe that each and every one of us has an inner fire, and that when you let your flame shine bright you can ignite that same spark in everyone else around you.

This is why we are so excited to be launching our brand new “My Inner Fire” series, where we will be featuring men and women who have unapologetically gone after their dreams.

Who better to premier in our first piece than Colette Nwachi, a local Vancouver choreography teacher, actress and business owner. At just 23 years old Colette is making her mark on the dance world, in addition to teaching privately, her Vancouver based company Femme Vitality teaches dance and fitness workshops locally.

We collaborated with Colette and local videographer/photographer David Roemmele to create a movement-based art piece that serves as a love letter to the beautiful city we live in. It was so much fun to dance and move with her all around Vancouver and beyond! Check out the video here:

Can you tell us a little about your background, and how you got into dancing, acting and choreography?

I was born in Nigeria and moved to Calgary, Alberta when I was 9. From a very young age I’ve always been interested in performing and the stage. All throughout junior high and high school I was in musical theatre and performed various styles of dance. When I graduated high school I got accepted into the Canadian College of Performing Arts and there I trained intensively in musical theatre, various forms of dance, theatre/film and vocal lessons. After 1 year of college I decided to move to Vancouver to pursue film acting full time and after 2 years I booked a couple of roles in commercials, TV and indie films. I also began to teach a heels technique class in September 2017, which focuses on choreographed dance performed in high heels.

Who has inspired you in your life?

I wouldn’t say that one person has inspired me. Various people have been there to support, encourage and mentor me through my journey.

“I would say those that inspire me are the ones who go after what they want unapologetically and continue to be persistent, consistent and grind their butts off for their dreams. It shows me that if they can do it so can I.”

What lights you up or stokes your inner fire?

Creating. I love coming up with new concepts, choreography and characters. When I have my creative juices flowing it’s so hard to get me out of that mindset because then I get incredibly passionate about the project and its hard for me to stop.

What are your biggest career aspirations?

To be a creative director for various musical artists and oversee their music video concepts, live performances and tours.

What quote resonates with you and why?

“When you want something all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.” A quote from Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist.

I love this quote because it is true. When you desire something and you put that energy out into the universe, chances are it will come to you one way or another, sooner or later but regardless it will come. It’s the law of attraction and that is why it is so important to focus your energy on that which you truly want and try to negate any other negative thoughts that come rushing in.

When you’re feeling overwhelmed or unfocused what do you do?

I usually make a list to help me prioritize what needs to get done versus what can be done later. I find it’s always good to do the little things first and take it day by day before it piles into something bigger. It’s a good way to avoid getting overwhelmed.

Any advice for people trying to break into acting or dance?

“Just be patient. That which is yours will come to you, but continue to put in the work, stay consistent and don’t give up.”

However if you feel you need a break, do not be afraid to take one. You can’t give your all if you’re completely drained, so take the time to recharge if needed.

Are there any books that have influenced your life or you’d recommend?

Definitely The Alchemist and You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome life. If you’re lacking confidence in the idea of pursuing your dreams and need some inspiration then these books are great to read.

What habits or rituals have you set that have helped you reach your goals?

Consistently training and taking classes to further grow my skills set.
