The Vancouver Yoga Conference took place last weekend at the Convention Centre. It was my first big trade show and I have to say, WOW, was it ever a busy three days! My friend Mike P helped me load in on Friday and I was pleasantly surprised with a primo spot with high visibility. We set up with relative ease and did a half day from 4-8pm. It was great to see so many cool exhibitors there – everything from big names like Semperviva and Half Moon to little independent crafters and artisans. I heard it was smaller than in past years, but it was still a super event in my mind. I wish I could have checked out some of the yoga workshops, but I had to be at my booth all weekend. Alas, duty calls. Friday was a good test run. It was pretty quiet but it at least gave me a feel for how things would go for the following days. I realized I need to grab a few extra things and booked it to Ikea 15 mins before closing to pick up so last-minute stuff for my booth.
Saturday was the big day. The show ran from 10am to 8pm. I was really lucky to have some awesome friends stop by to help me out (BIG thank yous to Rachel, Loretta, Linda, Felice, Kristina, Mike and Shayla!) The whole place was a-buzz with people trickling in from all over. They ran free yoga classes in the middle area all day, ranging from Moksha to Yin to Partner yoga to everything in between. There was something for everybody. I really didn’t have a clue how things would go sales-wise, but it was clear that a lot of people were digging the “I’M JUST HERE FOR THE SAVASANA” shirts. I even had to go home and screen some more to bring for Sunday (at which point my knees felt like they were going to give out after 10 hours of standing!) It was worth it through because Sunday was also a great day. I was happy to meet so many amazing people. Talking to them gave me a lot of confidence moving forward.
AND… at the end of it all, after three long days of exhibiting, I had to load all of my stuff and head straight to a swimming pool to run a two-hour AquaYoga workshop for City of Burnaby aquafit instructors. Honestly, I’m not quite sure how I managed to muster up the energy to teach after all that, but it was nice to get back into teach. Needless to say, I had a very enjoyable savasana/sleep on Sunday night!
