Beyond Pink 6 Degrees Exhibition

November 09, 2012

Four years ago I was finishing up my business degree at Simon Fraser University. At the end of that school year, one of my friends invited me to attend a conference called “Beyond Pink”. It was organized by a new organization called Young Women in Business or YWIB for short ( www.ywib.ca). I had an amazing time meeting other young women and getting pumped up at workshops and talks. After I graduated, I dappled in marketing, graphic design and event planning and ultimately realized I needed to take a break and went back to the fitness industry. There I stayed until early this year. Then Inner Fire was born out of unforeseen circumstances.

This past Summer, I found myself looking back on the Beyond Pink conference back in 2008. I remembered there was this amazing exhibition that showcased local women entrepreneurs. I was just barely getting used to calling myself the “E” word when I contacted the organizer to see if she could squeeze me into this year’s exhibition. It turns out I was exactly the kind of business she was looking for!

The conference was held last weekend at the Westin Bayshore hotel in Vancouver. When I walked in to set up my table, I was a little awestruck by all the other amazing women entrepreneurs in the room. They spanned so many industries – from health to food to tech to retail. They even had the tenacity to put me beside Lara Kozan, the co-founder of the wildly successful YYOGA empire. Needless to say, it was a surreal experience being there 4 years after I attended the very first conference as an anxious delegate. It was also amazing to meet so many young people who had so many good things going for them. What an amazing pool of talented women we have here in BC!

Here’s a photo of me at my booth!

Cheers,

Leah
