This post comes a little late, but as they say, better late than never! As many of you know, I am a Moksha Yoga teacher and I teach the studio in Burnaby, BC. Moksha Yoga is a wonderful network of over 60 studios all over the world. What really drew me to the practice (aside from all the wonderful health benefits) was the fact that it is founded on 7 Pillars that keep evolving as the community grows. As stated on the Living Your Moksha website, they are:
Be Healthy: We work to support lifelong health of the body and mind.
Be Accessible: Make real the idea that yoga’s benefits are limitless and accessible to all.
Live Green: Live to protect and serve our natural world.
Sangha Support: Believe in the power of community.
Outreach: Use creativity and energy to help others locally and abroad.
Live to Learn: Commit to always learning to stay humble, open, and inspired to serve.
Be Peace: We offer the benefit of our practice to the benefit of all beings everywhere.
Back in May and June of this year, the entire Moksha community took part in an amazing event called “ Living Your Moksha” that challenged people to think about each of these pillars for 7 weeks. It was also a huge fundraiser for Free The Children, an amazing organization that helps children help children. The goal was to raise $100,000 to build 7 schools in 7 countries.
To help raise funds for the cause, I started selling my C(OM)-UNITY shirts online and at Moksha Yoga Burnaby, with 50% of proceeds going to Free The Children. I am proud to say that I raised over $300 for the cause! I am happy to announce that, as a community, we raised our goal amount of $100,000. It’s pretty amazing what a community can do together when we put our hearts and minds to it.
